Andrew, Exams and Humanities

Andrew graduated Magna Cum Laude from Columbia University, where he double-majored in Literature and American Studies. He also received an MFA in Poetry from Brooklyn College, where he is now a lecturer in the English Department. 

Andrew started his tutoring career in Hong Kong, preparing students for the SAT and ACT, and GCSE and IB Literature exams. He now works with students of all ages on standardized exams, AP English, AP U.S. History, AP U.S. Government and Politics, AP European History, and AP Art History.

Outside of the classroom, Andrew is passionate about literature and basketball. His chapbook, En Un Auto Arteriado, is now available from Not Nothing Press. He is a co-director of Flatbush Commons, an arts nonprofit in Brooklyn.

Noraida, Elementary Subjects

A Queens native and alumna of Sacred Heart, Noraida graduated Magna Cum Laude from Amherst College, with a B.A. in sociology. She holds a Masters in Childhood Education from Hunter College, and currently works as a third grade teacher at a charter school here in the city. 

While at Amherst, Noraida was a Community Engagement Leader for Girls Inc. of Holyoke, managing a group of tutors working to empower young women in the Pioneer Valley region. Upon returning to New York, Noraida joined Americorps, where she trained and coordinated volunteer-tutors as they worked with students across New York to improve their literacy skills.  In her spare time, she enjoys searching for new books in the city's best bookstores, and modern dance classes.

Ash, Exams, sTEM, & Econ

Raised in Alabama, Ash graduated summa cum laude from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with majors in Electrical Engineering  and Econometrics. He also holds an MA in Economics from from Columbia University, where he worked as a tutor and teaching assistant in the economics and math departments. While in high school, he participated in 19 different AP courses.

Ash has helped middle and high school students prepare for competition math like AMC and Mathcounts. He has also worked as a tutor for TRIO (a program at Birmingham supporting college students from disadvantaged backgrounds) and as a volunteer teaching high school math. Outside of the classroom, Ash enjoys listening to his favorite vinyls, watching Messi highlights, and making vine references that no one understands.

ANITA, Exams & Humanities

Anita graduated Magna Cum Laude from Swarthmore College, where she double-majored in Film & Media Studies, and Theater. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting from Brown University, where she taught undergraduate students.

Anita has worked as an educator at Middlebury College's graduate literature program, The Bread Loaf School of English, leading student engagement workshops to empower high school teachers around the country. She has also worked as an actor and facilitator with middle and high schoolers through CUNY's Creative Arts Team. She recently began working as a teaching assistant at The City and Country school in Manhattan.

Anita helps students of all ages with standardized exam prep, and writing and literature. In addition to theatrical and commercial acting, Anita produces and stars in her own web series.

Yao-Rui, Exams, Math, & Physics

Yao-Rui is a Ph.D. candidate in mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania, where he specializes in number theory. He will graduate in May. He also holds a B.A. in mathematics, summa cum laude, from the University of Minnesota.

Yao-Rui first started teaching in graduate school, and has worked with students in classes ranging from freshman calculus to graduate algebra. He primarily tutors AP Calculus, standardized mathematics tests, undergraduate mathematics courses, and competition prep for AMC. He also tutors select topics in physics and music theory.

During his spare time, Yao-Rui enjoys learning languages and making music. He was classically trained in piano, and is active in both solo and chamber music.

Jon, Exams & English

Jon is a Ph.D. candidate in Comparative Literature at Cornell University. He graduated from Pomona College in 2006.

Jon’s classroom prioritizes students’ inherent motivations, passions, and abilities over one-size fits all lecturing. Years of teaching experience have taught him that students learn best when their unique perspective and capacities help direct the lesson. To that end, he focuses on encouraging them and giving them the tools they need to thrive.

When he isn’t teaching, Jon is busy researching and writing about linguistics, natural language processing, and the philosophy of language. He has edited and published several academic books and journals and worked with several top scholars in my field.

In his free time, you can find Jon engaged with woodworking, DIY electronics, cycling, and guitar.


Milton, Exams & Humanities

Milton holds a BA and MA from Stanford University, and is currently a PhD candidate in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality studies at Rutgers University.

A former third grade teacher, Milton has tutored students in a wide range of academic subjects for over a decade. Currently, he primarily helps student on the SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, and humanities subjects.

At Rutgers, Milton’s work focuses on developing theory that critically engages with and interrogates the construction, development and maintenance of white masculinity, primarily in the United States Context. He is interested in the need to look to other theoretical and intellectual traditions, namely Black Feminist Theory, in order to approach white masculinity with radical methodological, epistemological and ontological interventions.

Archer, Exams & STEM

Archer attended Johns Hopkins University, where he received his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, and Molecular/Cellular Biology, and completed his M.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering. He holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Yale University. Archer has taught a number of STEM classes at Yale, including introductory and upper level math courses, college level physics, and introductory and graduate level courses in biology and biomedical engineering. He is also an Adjunct Professor of math at Southern Connecticut State University. Archer has over 10 years of experience helping students on AP Exams and standardized tests, and has been involved with a number of high school and undergraduate teaching programs offered at Yale (Freshman Scholars at Yale, Yale Pathways to Science, and ONEXSYS).

Tameka, Chemistry & Physics

Tameka earned her B.S. in Chemistry and her EdM. in Science and the Public at the University of Buffalo. She has fifteen years of teaching experience and is currently teaching Chemistry and AP Chemistry at the Rye Country Day School. Tameka is a recipient of a STEM Teaching Fellowship from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals & Teachers College of Columbia University.

Jake, Exams & Humanities

Jake holds a bachelors degree in political science from Columbia University, where he received the honors of Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Keppa. He is currently pursuing a masters of science in special education. Jake works as a teacher at High School for Health Professions and Human Services located in downtown Manhattan, and has experience teaching science, math, history and English at the middle and high school levels. He is trained in both general and special education. He tutors students in middle and high school science, social studies and English. He also tutors students for the SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT, and PSAT, and select Advanced Placement Exams, such as AP U.S. History, AP U.S. Government & Politics, and AP Comparative Politics. In his spare time, he enjoys ceramics, tennis, and biking.

Ariana, Biology

Ariana is a true lover of science, and always looks to pass that love on to her students. She is a medical student at NYU, where she completed a master’s degree in Environmental Health Sciences. Prior to medical school, Ariana earned a BA in Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania. She has conducted published research creating novel 3D engineered organs for testing new pharmaceuticals, and laboratory work finding the link between air pollution and genetic changes during pregnancy. 

Over the last decade, Ariana has worked with students at the Lang Youth Medical Program, and the 92Y. In her free time, she loves working on her dancing, her fashion design skills, and her repertoire of Mediterranean recipes.

Patricio, Spanish

Patricio graduated from Universidad de Buenos Aires (2009), where he majored in literature. He then received a PhD in Spanish and Portuguese from New York University (2016), with a dissertation on the Argentine literature and visual arts of the 1960s.

He has taught Spanish and literature courses of all levels at New York University and Barnard College in New York, and Universidad de Belgrano in Buenos Aires. For his commitment to pedagogy, he received two Outstanding Teaching Awards (2013 and 2017) at NYU. He has also taught as a private tutor for students of all ages.
Patricio is also a translator, having translated books on music criticism, film and queer theory, Black activism, amongst other topics. His first book, based on his doctoral dissertation, will appear in 2021.

Jacob, Chemistry & Physics

Jacob graduated Cum Laude from Brigham Young University majoring in chemistry. He also holds a master's degree and PhD in chemistry from Caltech.

Jacob has been teaching for over a decade. Beginning as a music teacher, he later became a teaching assistant to chemistry classes as an undergraduate and graduate student. He has one-on-one and classroom experience teaching students in chemistry, physics, and math.

Outside of the classroom Jacob is passionate about science fiction literature, epic hikes, and playing piano, drums, and accordion. Professionally, Jacob is passionate about sustainability technology. He is currently a research scientist and teacher at Umeå University in Sweden studying alternative fuels and recycling.

HarrisoN, History & French

Harrison graduated Magna Cum Laude from Columbia University with a degree in history, for which he wrote an honors thesis focusing on U.S. intellectual history after World War II. He has lived in France since 2016, teaching English as a Second Language in Lyon, and English language literature at the Lycée Internationale de Sainte Germaine en Lye, just outside of Paris. He holds a masters degree from École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, where he currently teaches U.S. history and politics. A fluent French speaker, Harrison has written for U.S. publications like The Nation, The New York Review of Books, and The Baffler. He has also written about American politics for a variety of French publications.

Bradley, Math & Comp SCI

Bradley has taught high school math, statistics, and computer science since 2017. He has helped students in his classrooms master Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and AP Computer science A. He is currently a teacher at SAR Academy in Riverdale.

Prior to teaching, Bradley received a BA from McGill University in Montreal, where he majored in Cognitive Science. He has also earned an MA in Secondary Education with a focus on Mathematics from the University of Vermont in Burlington. When he is not teaching, you can find him in the kitchen, cooking and baking, or outside, enjoying a hike, playing sports, or spending the day at the park.

Zach, English

Zach is a long-time teacher, tutor, and coach, who has taught at the secondary level in Spain, South America, and the United States. He earned an MA in English education from Teachers College at Columbia University, and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he majored in French, and minored in Environmental Science. In addition to helping students as an independent English tutor and college admissions consultant, Zach coaches cross country and track at the Trinity School in Manhattan.

Outside of his teaching and coaching, Zach has keen interests in community activism, education reform, and student-led social movements. He is based in Brooklyn, New York.

Rafael, Music Theory & History

Rafael graduated Salutatorian of his class at the New School, where he earned a BFA from the School of Jazz. While at the New School, Rafael worked as a tutor for fundamental music courses such as theory, rhythmic analysis, arranging & composition, ear training, and piano. Inspired by the experience, he has gone on to start his own studio as a private trumpet and piano teacher. Since graduating, Rafael has worked as a teaching artist at the Louis Armstrong House Museum in Queens, giving presentations to school groups about fundamental elements of jazz, weaving them into the narrative of Armstrong’s life and American history writ large. He also developed the curriculum for the museum’s after-school trumpet program, which will launch later this year. Rafael tutors in AP Music Theory, and all three AP History courses.

Isaac, Environmental Science

Isaac graduated from Bowdoin College, where he double majored in Environmental Studies and Government and Legal Studies. Isaac has guest lectured Environmental Science and Policy courses at both the high school and college level, focusing on food production and sustainable certification schemes. 

Isaac currently works at the Kennebunk Conservation Trust, where he develops environmental science curricula with local school districts. He also leads summer camps at the land trust that focus on the environment and ecology. Prior to working at the conservation, Isaac spent a year working for the Bowdoin College Admissions.

 When he isn’t on the water, you can find Isaac playing music with friends, or reliving his glory days as a track athlete, pounding the trails.

Wilhelmina, French

Born in New York City, Wilhelmina grew up on the outskirts of Paris, where she benefited from a bilingual education at the renowned Lycée International school in Saint Germain en Laye. Wilhelmina went on to study Cultural Anthropology at Queens University Belfast in Northern Ireland. She graduated with First Class Honours in 2012 and has remained in Belfast since, tutoring French at the Language Center at Queens University, and to individuals and organizations throughout Northern Ireland. She is currently studying Fine Art Printmaking at Ulster University Belfast, and works as a freelance visual artist. In addition to teaching French professionally, Wilhelmina is also raising her two children bilingually in French and English.

Jake, CompUter Science

Hailing originally from Westchester County, Jake graduated from Amherst College with a degree in Computer Science. He currently works as a software engineer for the education technology company Amplify, where he builds user interfaces and systems oriented around the needs of students and teachers alike. He previously worked for various small businesses in New York as a freelance engineer, building websites and iOS apps. While at Amherst, Jake worked as a TA for Intro to Computer Science courses, helping to teach students the fundamentals of Comp Sci theory and the building blocks of writing code. In his free time, he builds websites for personal use for students and professionals. He is also a musician, playing drums for the band Cloud District, and producing music in his Brooklyn apartment.

Paul, Chief Technical Officer

Paul built and maintains our SAT-ACT Web Application, and is working with our team to expand our application to serve subject tutoring and other standardized exams like the SHSAT, SSAT, ISEE, and more. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a bachelor's degree in computer science, and a minor in global and transnational history.

He started his career as a web developer working in biotech and finance before pivoting to career freelancing and working from home (before it was cool). He now works as a lead developer building single-page web applications for a wide variety of industries and clients.

He spends his free time rock climbing, hiking, developing video games, playing music, and moonlighting as a professional chef.
